Smoking is a major health hazard. Besides increasing the risk of cancer, diabetes and hypertension it reduces life span by about ten years in regular smokers.


The nicotine in cigarettes needs to be deeply inhaled into the lungs to be absorbed into the body for the desired effect. There is a misconception that smoking cigars is less harmful than smoking cigarettes, because cigar smoke is not usually inhaled. Because cigar tobacco is fermented and matured, it contains more toxins and carcinogens.



The nicotine of cigars is absorbed through the mucous membranes in the mouth and hence does not need to be inhaled. The wrappers of cigars are non porous and hence the nicotine is not diluted by air, making cigar smoking at least as much, if not more harmful than cigarettes.



Unfortunately the hep and macho image of cigarette smoking promoted by cigarettes company advertising draws many youngsters to this unhealthy habit.


Smoking is a health hazard, both for smoker and those around them, who are forced to passive smoke, their spewed out smoke.


Smoking not only increases the risk of cancer but also exaceberates the intensity and triggers other diseases like ulcers, high blood pressure, heart ailments, gesture problems etc. It also increases anciety levels although many smokers do so to ally anxiety.

It’s best not to smoke at all.


You could consult a doctor for a prescription for medication if it’s difficult to give up smoking on one’s own, which it usually is – it’s worth it. However the medication available only works if the smoker is committed to giving and is willing to exercise the will power necessary to overcome the habit of smoking. Some people go off to retreats where they are under strict supervision. Such forced without the commitment of the smoker is futile as the smoker without the will to give up, usually returns to the habit. Encouragement and support of the family and friends helps a great deal if handled well.
