Chapter 5

Introspection

He who asks a question is a fool for five minutes;
he who does not ask a question remains a fool forever.

Chinese Proverb

Introspection may be defined as a view of the inside or interior; a looking inward; specifically, the act or process of self-examination, or inspection of one’s own thoughts, feelings and actions.

It would be useful to review your day at the end of each day or early the next day. It is like carrying out a daily review of the day with a special focus on a self-introspection of things did right, things done wrong.

You should replay a mental video picture of events, being objective, almost tending to be self-critical and reviewing the entire day, including non-work time.

You could take about 15 minutes doing this or one could do it while commuting i.e. driving, on a bus or train, walking, or even in the loo.

You could also introspect and do a reality check on your life, every year. It will only happen if you plan and schedule specific time for it.

This could be by getting away alone for a few days to reflect on the year gone by, on the period of your life gone by. It could be used to reflect on the year ahead, and the years ahead.

Such reflection will enable you to plan course corrections on areas you think need such correction.
